On January 6th, 1994 in Detroit, the young Olympic hopeful Nancy Kerrigan was the victim of a planned attack orchestrated by Jeff Gillooly, the ex-husband of Kerrign’s skating rival Tonya Harding. I remember the news broadcasts that day, but being only 14, the event never processed as a very big deal. Nor did I understand the lasting effects it would have on the families of those involved.
The “hitman” hired to carry out the attack was Shane Stant is a man who was no stranger to being hired muscle. But is there a path of redemption for someone who is seen as a hero by his younger sibling? That’s what filmmaker Justin Young looks to find out in his documentary ‘My Hero’s Shadow.’
